Menzi E. Gqweta
Co-Founder & Director
Menzi Gqweta is a retired South African geologist who has enjoyed a professional career spanning over 35 years. His journey in geology began in 1991 in the coal industry, where he served as a mine geologist at the New Denmark Colliery, then owned by Amcoal, a coal division of Anglo-American Corporation.
In 1995, he founded Khulani GeoEnviro Consultants, specialising in geology, geohydrology, and environmental impact studies. He managed his consultancy for more than 22 years, during which he mentored and trained several geologists who have since progressed to senior levels within the industry.
Beyond consulting, Menzi has been active in the broader mining sector, serving as a director and shareholder in several companies — African Minerals Professionals, Atlatsa Holdings, Ibutho Coal Holdings, and Masa Mzantsi Cement. Through this, he has gained wide and in-depth exposure to South Africa’s critical mineral deposits, including gold, platinum group metals, manganese, and coal.
In addition to his professional achievements, Menzi has invested in and established family businesses under MEMANTASA Investment Holdings (MIH), focusing on the real estate and agriculture industries. These ventures represent legacy investments that encourage family participation, entrepreneurship, and business acumen.
Complementing his business leadership, Menzi’s philanthropic responsibilities are well evidenced through the community-based projects he supports — both personally and through his company — as part of his commitment to uplift and empower others.
